Women in Business Award presented to Angela Reddix for her contribution in ARDX®, the multimillion dollar health care management consulting firm.

At work The multimillion dollar health care management consulting firm provides compliance, communication and education solutions for some of the nation’s most complex health care management challenges.

Home and family Chesapeake; husband Carl, daughters Anyssa and Ayla, son Ahmon.

Career progression Immediately after earning a bachelor’s degree in business administration in marketing from James Madison University, I landed a position as a pharmaceutical sales representative. I learned the value of establishing relationships with critical decision-makers and that the decision-maker is not always the person whose name is on the door, but the gatekeeper. I relocated to the Washington, D.C., area and worked in telecommunications as a marketing representative for Bell Atlantic. While there I returned to school to earn a master’s in organizational development with a focus in training and was promoted to the training department. Then I was recruited by a small business to implement a major claims processing systems training program for a national HMO. This offered me experience with large government contracting firms before launching A. Reddix & Associates.

Proudest business achievement

Planting seeds of success into Hampton Roads-area high school students during our summer internship program. Watching them grow professionally was such an inspiration.

Biggest success factor

I believe that self-assessment is key to success. I am constantly re-evaluating my personal SWOT. I evaluate my strengths, weaknesses, the appropriate opportunities and what the threats are to reaching my ultimate goal. Having a circle of supporters who provide input has been invaluable.

Professional, business activities Member of American Health Information Management Association, American Society for Training & Development and Project Management Institute.

Volunteer and community activities Board member of FoodBank of Southeastern Virginia; Urban League Program Committee; Women’s Wellness Celebration Program Committee; Healthcare Academy Program Committee.

Balancing time A supportive husband allows me to be who I need to be professionally and ensures that our children feel that they are valued, loved and supported.

Biggest obstacles My biggest challenge has been finding employees who share the core values of the firm. The company seeks to attract innovative individuals with a shared vision based on integrity and embracing individuality.

Professional goal in five years My goal is to continue to have a thriving business in health care management consulting that makes a difference in this world. I would like to add a foundation arm that supports health causes.

Advice for women in the workforce Write your vision and stay true to yourself! I find that we are often distracted by someone else’s vision for our life.

Downtime Spend time with my children and travel.

What gets under your skin?

Unproductive meetings!
