By 01/25/2017News

Norfolk, VA, January 25, 2017  — Christie Lawrence, vice president of commercial services for ARDX, spoke today at the University of North Texas Health Science Center’s Grand Rounds held in the Gibson D. Lewis Library (LIB) min-auditorium in Fort Worth, TX.

Ms. Lawrence co-presented with Dr. Jeffrey Bullard, MD.  Their presentation, Tackling the Challenges of Behavioral Health Integration, highlighted the challenges in achieving meaningful behavioral health integration in hospital systems and the individual practice.  It focused on identifying:  1) the unrecognized mental health patients, 2) the high cost of care for mental health, 3) the use of health IT to facilitate integration, 4) the current spectrum of integration models, and 5) best practices in behavioral health integration.  Some key facts include:

  • 1 in 5 adults suffer from a diagnosable, treatable mental illness;
  • 1 in 10 adults are diagnosed with depression;
  • Depression increases the risk of a 3-day hospital readmission by nearly 40%; and,
  • Anxiety disorders are twice as common as depression in primary care.

Mrs. Lawrence is an accomplished business development and marketing strategist with more than 25 years of healthcare experience working with hospital systems, physician groups, payers, self-insured employers, government entities, and Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs).  She enjoys consulting with and educating healthcare organizations and providers on the trends, required analytical tools, and organizational structure to be successful in the P4P, value-based purchasing environment or clinically integrated networks.  A sought-after speaker and trainer, she routinely speaks on a variety of topics including:  behavioral health integration, patient-centered medical home transformation, population health management, chronic care management, and the new Quality Payment Program. She currently serves as the communication chairperson for the Executive Healthcare Network of Dallas-Fort Worth, the largest healthcare networking group in North Texas.
